1770m up Mount Batur, an active volcano in Bali.

A little backstory here: We chose to go up the difficult path, which consisted of not only trekking in the dark and steep incline, but also a lot of climbing up slippery rocks that were as high as my waist. I'm not sure if it's because the trek started at 2AM (pre-caffeinated Sherry gets headaches) or because I didn’t have any breakfast, but this was hands down, one of the most physically challenging experiences of my life. This is coming from someone that works out 5 times a week and does weekly 6km runs. During the 2.5 hour trek, I had to take multiple short breaks and eat snacks (kindly provided by our absolutely amazing local trekking guide - how did he know I was going to need chocolate???). Even then, I got lightheaded and seriously wondered if I’d make it up on the top in time for the sunrise (or at all).

I’m so glad I pushed through. The top of Mount Batur was absolutely breathtaking. If any of you visit Bali and would like a challenge (and this view as reward), I highly recommend you guys to give it a go. I’ll share more clips and details in an upcoming Bali vlog - you won’t want to miss it. Trust me.

P.S. I booked my trek through @klooktravel (not sponsored) and I don’t have anything but good things to say about the whole experience. Highly recommend getting the private tour package because you get a dedicated local driver, guide and a coffee plantation visit after the trek. This is the one I picked: http://bit.ly/sherrymountbatur
